This TC oil seal measures 40x78x8 mm and is machined for a 40 mm shaft rotating inside a 78 mm housing — a dimension you will meet in workshop motors, helical gearboxes, vane pumps and tractor attachments.

How the TC design works
As a TC-pattern seal it seals in two stages: a primary spring-loaded lip holds the oil film on the shaft, while a second lip fends off dust and water spray; the rubber-covered case keeps the whole unit anchored in the bore.
About the NBR nitrile compound
Nitrile rubber (NBR) is the workhorse of oil sealing: fully compatible with mineral oils, lubricating greases and common hydraulic fluids — the media found in most gearboxes and motors. Avoid contact with brake fluid, and keep spares shaded from sunlight.
If your shaft measures a few tenths of a millimetre under the nominal size, that is normal — the sealing lip is designed with interference for exactly that.
